Libraries across Powys are getting ready to welcome children into its annual Summer Reading Challenge that will keep them reading throughout the school summer holidays.
The theme this year is ‘Space Chase’ and they want pupils from all over the county to help them smash their 2018 record for those completing the challenge.
This will be the 20th annual Summer Reading Challenge and it is set to reach over 10,000 children aged 4 to 12 years via the Powys library service.
Children can sign up at their local library from 6th July and all materials are absolutely free.
The message is simple – reading is a fun way to pass the holiday time and facts show that keeping up with reading over the summer holidays improves literacy standards for children when they go back to school.
To complete the challenge and gain a medal, all they have to do is to read six or more books of their choice during the holidays. Children can simply visit the library and borrow books or alternatively, children can download digital e-books and e-audio books at the library or from home onto their tablets/laptop computers. Library staff are always happy to help.
